Last week, the Cumberland Planning Board unanimously approved MSAD 51's amended Site Plan application, which includes all of the overall design components of the One Campus project. Additionally, the Planning Board approved the addition of two more temporary structures (4 modular classrooms) at GMS to accommodate increasing enrollment over the next two years until the One Campus project is done.
Bids came in under budget for both the turf field surface and the new maintenance facility. Contractors will be hired for both projects pending approval of the Board of Directors on March 6. The second part of the turf project, that of earthworks and drainage, will be separately bid out within the next month. Construction on both the maintenance building and turf field is expected to begin sometime in April-May. Construction documents for the rest of the One Campus project, which includes the new PK-1 school building and additions/renovations to MIW, are expected to be completed over the next few weeks and will be sent out for bids by early May. Once school ends in June, the entire One Campus project will begin in earnest over the summer months.
